Computer Software Definition
Computer
Software is a set of instructions and directions that a computer needs
to perform its various tasks. Computer Software is a term called all software
needed to run a computer, as well as to organize the work of all different
computer/computer units as software is an important part of the computer.
Software is essential
for a computer as all computer equipment cannot function as an integrated
system without software; without such software, it becomes a computer without
usefulness.
The software
can be obtained either by installing it and installing it on one of the storage
media such as HDDs, DVDs, flash memory, or otherwise, or can also be obtained
by downloading it directly and installing it via the Internet.
Types of Software
There are two
basic types of Computer Software, and these two are:
Operating Systems Software
It is a set of programs and instructions whose primary function is to control the computer as it regulates the user's relationship with the computer because it represents the role of intermediary between the software applied and dealt with by the user and other devices and equipment that make up the computer.
- Examples of software for operating systems are computer operating systems. The most important operating systems for computers include:
It is an
integrated set of programs whose primary task is to perform the necessary
operation of the computer to manage all the computer units of the IBM model or
any compatible device This system depends on writing commands by keyboard as
there is no Mouse in those older versions and therefore the use of this type of
operating system required special skills and knowledge of all abbreviations and
commands as well as instructions by using the keyboard.
Windows Operating System
Windows is
one of Microsoft's most important software products, Windows Operating Systems began in 1985 as
an alternative graphical interface for Dos' command writing screen that was
black, and there are several versions of Windows 11, all of which have GUI.
Application software
Application software represents those programs that employ all the capabilities of a computer to perform tasks requested or needed by the user of software designed for specific tasks such as text processing software, presentation software, account tables, ranking, sorting, analysis, and so on. The main objective of these programs is to serve the user.
Several diverse
application programs can be grouped into a single package, in this case, called
Package, and the software that is in one package has the advantage of having a
similar interface with each other. This makes it easier for the user to deal
with any software within the same Package.
Examples of application
programs include:
- Word Processing.
- Spreadsheets.
- Data Base.
- Presentations Programs.
What is the difference between OS software and applied/ application software?
It is known and
recognized that a computer cannot operate without an operating system because
the operating system helps the computer to manage itself, as well as the
operating software is responsible for the work of all computer equipment as
well as the identification of any supplement added to the computer as well as
the operating systems software is responsible for the operation of applied
software.
Concerning application
software, it is not that important as the computer can operate without it as
the applied software has been found to provide some help, improve the user
experience, and perform some tasks such as creating and editing text, images,
design, etc.
